The Girondins de Bordeaux are pleased to announce that terms have been agreed on a contract extension for Romane Bruneau. The goalkeeper has signed up for the next two seasons, ensuring that she will be with the club until at least 2022. Romane moved to Bordeaux in 2018, and has been working hard and making constant progress ever since.  In her first season with the club she made six appearances in D1 and one in the Coupe de France. This season was cut short by the current crisis, but she still managed to make 8 appearances in the league and one in the cup, helping to steer the Girondines to a highly respectable 3rd-place finish. Romane will turn 24 in August, and still has plenty of time to continue to improve and learn from experience. A product of the Angers youth academy, she started her playing career with La Roche-sur-Yon. From 2011 to 2016 she worked her way up through the ranks, racking up a total of 37 appearances for the first team. She subsequently spent spells in Dijon and Lyon before making the move to Bordeaux. She has now played a total of 65 matches at the top level: 27 in D1, 36 in D2 and 2 in the Coupe de France. Romane is also an experienced international. She was part of the French team that won the U17 World Cup in 2012, where she also picked up the award for goalkeeper of the tournament. She went on to feature in the U20 World Cup in 2014, where France finished third. Romane has so far earned a total of 28 caps with the French youth sides Assertive, competitive and hard-working, Romane is constantly striving to improve. Her goalkeeping talents are undeniable, and the club staff and supporters are all thrilled that she will be a Bordeaux player for the foreseeable future.
