Stalemate [2-2]

The Girondins and Dijon battled to a draw this evening, a result which will be frustrating for both sides (2-2). Paulo Sousa's team dominated for long periods of the game, but Dijon had some very strong chances and were perhaps unlucky not to score more. Indeed it was Dijon who took an early lead. While Bordeaux dominated the opening exchanges and came close with a few set pieces, the visitors seized the opportunity to strike on the counter. A long ball fell nicely for Chouiar, who coolly slotted past Benoît Costil from close range (0-1, 16’). Dijon were galvanised by their goal, and both Ndong (20’) and Mendyl (30’) came close to making it 2-0, with the latter rattling the post to cap off an inspired movement launched by Tavares. Bordeaux had to dig in their heels and find a way back into this game. They once again began to dominate possession and won a series of free kicks and corners. From one of those set pieces Toma Basic delivered a superb cross for Hwang Ui-Jo who slammed in the equaliser (1-1, 35')!  5th goal of the season for the Korean striker. The two sides were every bit as evenly-matched in the second half, but this time it was the Girondins who scored first. Rémi Oudin laid off a clever ball for Jimmy Briand, who charged through the defence to shoot past Runarsson with his right foot (2-1, 64'). Jimmy's 8th goal of the season, and the 99th of his Ligue 1 career. Bordeaux pushed hard for a third, but neither Toma Basic (59’) nor Rémi Oudin (68’) could find the net. Missed chances that Bordeaux would come to regret… Once again it was Chouiar who stepped up to save Dijon, charging past Youssouf Sabaly and scoring with a splendid right-footed shot (2-2, 72’) ! Bordeaux were left to rue their missed chances, but it could have been worse. Earlier in the half Youssouf Sabaly had been only a whisker away from scoring an own goal (49’). In the end it was a point apiece for Bordeaux and Dijon, a result which was a fair reflection of a game that could have gone either way. Paulo Sousa's side are unbeaten in five as they prepare for a high-risk away trip next weekend: to face the stars of PSG at the Parc des Princes.
