On Friday 31 January, Marius Trésor officially announced his retirement. At the stadium this weekend, the Girondins pulled out all the stops to celebrate this club legend. A true Bordeaux icon, Marius Trésor's extraordinary career was captured in a video celebrating his decades as both player and coach with our club. And of course, this heartfelt tribute came on one of the biggest days in the sporting calendar: FC Girondins de Bordeaux v Olympique de Marseille. There were also tributes galore from fellow legends of the game (including Michel Platini, Lilian Thuram, Patrick Battiston and Pierrot Labat), all paying testament to the enduring reputation of Marius Trésor. Highlights of the film included his famous goal against Germany in the 1982 World Cup. World player of the year in 1972, FIFA have since ranked him as one of the 100 greatest players in the history of the game. To mark the occasion, the whole Bordeaux squad warmed up in T-shirts bearing the name Marius and his famous number 5. Marius also had the pleasure of kicking off the game, and received a guard of honour from both Bordeaux and Marseille as well as a host of former team-mates. Marius played for both clubs during his career, and this retirement party will be another cherished memory in a life that has been full of them. And better still, Bordeaux preserved their decades-long unbeaten home run against OM! Marius Trésor is now 70 years young, and everybody here at the club wishes him all the very best for a happy retirement. Thank you for everything Marius !
