Bordeaux stroll into the next round! [2-0]

As any football fan can tell you, cup games aren't always pretty to watch. But it's the result that matters, and tonight the result went our way! This was a hard-fought and hard-earned victory for the Girondins (if we're being generous), or a lucky escape (less generous). As always in this game, it depends what side you're on.     Despite dominating possession and creating solid chances in the first half, it wasn't until after the break that the Girondins took the lead. And it wasn't until the final seconds of the game that Toma Basic finally settled the nerves of the Matmut ATLANTIQUE (2-0, 90+4'). Game over at last !      Jimmy Briand scored the first goal from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute, making up for a first half in which the Girondins should have taken the lead but were denied by Le Mans keeper Patron. Jimmy Briand (8') and Toma Basic (12') both came close with volleyed efforts.      Nicolas De Préville gave the visitors another fright from a set piece (21'), and Jimmy Briand seent a header just wide of Patron's post (34'). At the other end, Maziz and Manzala both tested Girondins keeper Gaëtan Poussin (23' and 26').     But of course, what really matters is that the Girondins are now through to the next round of the Coupe de France, to be played on the weekend of January 18th-19th. The draw will be made on Monday.
