Girondines beat Bilbao [4-2]

The late afternon sun was beating down on the Matmut ATLANTIQUE as the Girondines and Athletic Bilbao took to the pitch. For many in the stands, this was their first look at Pedro Martinez Losa's rejuvenated team.   The Basques scored first, just after the half hour mark, but two minutes later Souleymata Sarr snatched an equaliser (1-1, 34').  Bilbao struck again a few minutes later, putting them ahead with half-time fast approaching (1-2, 41'). But the Girondines refused to be beaten: Maëlle Garbino teed up Khadija for a superb equaliser just before the break!      Khadija Shaw struck again after the break to put Bordeaux in front for the first time (52', 3-2). From then on, they never looked anything less than dominant. Axelle Touzeau sealed the deal with a fourth goal late on.     This was a proper pre-season friendly, atmosphere included: both sides joined up to sing with the Bordeaux-Basque Virage Sud at the end of the match!
