The Girondins de Bordeaux can now officially confirm the transfer of Jules Koundé to FC Sevilla. The central defender has succesfully completed his medical and signed all the necessary paperwork to join the Spanish club, who finished 6th in La Liga last season and qualified for the UEFA Europa League group stages. Born 12th November 1998 in Paris, Jules Koundé moved to the south west at a young age. He started out playing football in the village of Landiras, before moving to La Brède. In 2013 he was recruited to the Girondins Academy. Jules' career really took off in 2017, when he was part of the U19 side that secured the national title with victory over Le Havre (2-0). As captain of that team, Jules was first to lift the trophy. He went on to sign his first professional contract that October. 2018 turned out to be even better, as Jules made his first team debut in a Coupe de France match against Granville, swiftly followed by his first appearance in Ligue 1. From then on he was never out of the first team squad, playing 18 games, scoring his first goal against Amiens and contributing to the late-season fight-back which saw the Girondins qualify for the Europea League. Jules Koundé continued to go from strength to strength last season. A firm fiexture in the starting line-up for all of the coaches he worked with, he made his European debut (10 matches) and scored a crucial goal against Slavia Prague (2-0). He also put in a full season in Ligue 1, making a total of 37 appearances. As talented on the field as he is personable in real life, Jules Koundé will always be a Bordeaux boy. He is now embarking upon the next chapter of his career with FC Sevilla. We will be watching his progress in Spain closely, and we wish him all the very best for the future.
