A narrow defeat to Lille [1-0]

The Girondins started brightly, with Youssouf Sabaly trying his luck from distance (5’). Bordeaux had time to ease themselves into the match, with Lille looking more cautious than usual. The hosts finally appeared to wake up in the 20th minute, when Benoît Costil was forced to pull off an excellent double save to push away shots by Rémy and Bamba. A few minutes later Lille were back on the attack, and this time their efforts paid off: Ikoné chipped a free kick into the path of Rémy, who produced a magnificent volley to put LOSC into the lead (27, 1-0). Bordeaux came close to equalising in the 58th minute with a superb movement launched by Jaroslav Plasil. Jaro picked out Yacine Adli, who laid off for Jimmy Briand... who put in a shot which Maignan somehow managed to clear with the tip of his toes! The game was an evenly-matched affair, but once again Bordeaux let themselves down in the final third. Despite a red card for Pablo towards the end of the match (89’), the Girondins pushed until the very end to get back into the game. But their efforts were to be in vain: Bordeaux slipped to a narrow defeat against the Ligue 1 runners-up.
