A rough afternoon in Saint-Etienne [3-0]

The chilly Forez breeze seemed to have got the better of the boys in blue this afternoon - at least in the second half. Before the break it was all Bordeaux, dominating possession and keeping Saint Etienne pinned back in their own half. The Girondins returned for the second half in high spirits, ready to make that dominance count. But things were about to change: ten minutes into the second period, the referee consulted the VAR and somehow decided to award a penalty for an unintentional handball by Sergi Palencia. Khazri stepped up and slotted it home (1-0, pen.). Things only went downhill from there. As the game entered its final fifteen minutes Debuchy pounced to double the lead (2-0, 75'), before adding insult to injury in the dying seconds of the match (3-0, 90'). A rough afternoon and a sharp wake-up call for Bordeaux, who now find themselves in 13th position in Ligue 1 and in need of some serious work before their away trip to Nîmes next Saturday.
