The Girondins are delighted to confirm that Jules Koundé has signed an extension to his contract. The defender, a product of the club's youth academy, has signed on for two more years. He is now under contract with the Girondins until June 2023. Jules grew up in Landiras, just south of Bordeaux, and started out with local club La Brède before joining the Girondins in 2013. Jules has never stopped improving throughout his time with the club, playing a major role in the U19 league title triumph in 2017 and discovering the UEFA Youth League the following season. 2018 was a huge year for Jules as he stepped up to the first team squad, making his debut in the Coupe de France before making his Ligue 1 bow against Troyes (0-1). His impressive performances have seen him become a regular feature in the starting eleven. He featured in 18 of the 19 matches in the latter half of last season, and has been every bit as dependable this season. 2018 also saw Jules' Europa League debut (playing in 10 matches) as he firmly established his place in the first team. He has now racked up a total of 51 professional appearances (scoring 4 goals) Last but by no means least, Jules recently earned himself a call-up to the France U20 squad for a friendly against the USA. A pacy, technically-gifted defender who likes to play the ball out from the back, Jules Koundé has proved himself at the top level. But there's plenty more still to come from this talented young player, who will be a major asset in this new era in the Girondins' history.
