Disappointment in Nice (1-0)

In the end it all came down to one very dubious incident in the Bordeaux box. In the 13th minute of play, Sacko went down in the general vicinity of Vukasin Jovanovic. The referee awarded a penalty, and the VAR did nothing to change his mind. n’y changera rien. Costil went the right way, but Saint Maximin's strike was too powerful (1-0, 16th minute). And yet, the Girondins had already had a few decent chances to take the lead, with Yann Karamoh coming close on two occasions (1' ; 4'). Conceding that penalty seriously dampened the Girondins' enthusiasm, and a fatal lack of pragmatism in attack meant Bodeaux were still trailing at the break despite a few more solid chances for Otavio (32') and Briand (41'). The second half was more of the same: the Girondins dominated proceedings, but lacked that killer edge up front. Nice put on a few counter-attacks, but ultimately one goal was enough. A very disappointing night for Bordeaux.
