Bordeaux started brightly, dominating possession in the opening stages. This dominance looked to have paid off in the 9th minute when Yann Karamoh placed a little lob over Lopes and between the posts... only for the VAR replay to rule that Karamoh had been offside. Things gradually began to even out, and the only Bordeaux chances for the rest of the first half were speculative efforts from Yann Karamoh (30’), Otavio (31’) and Jimmy Briand (36'). Things took an unexpected turn just before the break when Aouar scored for the hosts, completely against the run of play (45’, 1-0). A cruel blow for the Girondins, who looked to be on top of this game. Back from the break, Bordeaux threw themselves forward in search of an equaliser. Younousse Sankharé (56’) and Jimmy Briand (60') both had huge chances but failed to keep them on target. The equaliser finally came courtesy of Andreas Cornelius (73’), shirtly after coming on to replace Jimmy Briand. The big Danish international latched onto an arcing ball inside the box, slamming home his first goal for the Girondins! Both teams had late chances but the game ended 1-1, a well-deserved result for the Girondins after a fine performance away from home at one of the league's toughest stadiums.
