The sun was beating down on Bordeaux as the game kicked off, with temperatures unseasonably warm for mid-October. Starting the afternoon in third place, the Girondines hoped to keep their good run going against 6th-placed Guingamp.   The opening exchanges were very evenly-matched, with both sides pushing forward but leaving no gaps at the back. Space was at a premium in the midfield, and chances were few and far between. Maëlle Garbino played in some promising crosses, and Viviane Asseyi worked hard in the middle. Bordeaux had the first big goalscoring opportunity of the game: Claire Lavogez nicked the ball from the keeper and seemed destined to score until the referee blew up for a foul which seemed very harsh indeed (22’). Up at the other end, Louise Fleury was the visitors' biggest threat with a dangerous cross (27’) followed closely by a shot on target (32’). Things really began to pick up as half time approached, and the Girondines threw themselves forward in search of a goal. Guingamp managed to get out of their own half just twice, but on both occasions created massive chances on goal! A cross from Le Garrec, headed by Oparanozie, beat Erin Nayler but not the post (40’). A few minutes later the Bordeaux keeper pulled off a fantastic save to stop another close-range effort from Oparanozie (44’). The second half started with two more big chances for Guingamp. Erin Nayler was imperious once again to deny Oparanozie (46’), then stopped another shot from Le Garrec (50’). Two close calls which spurred the Girondines into action. Viviane Asseyi fired a shot over the bar (51’), while Claire Lavogez (60’) and Solène Barbance (69’) also narrowly missed the target. Andrea Lardez fired in a superb cross to the front post, teeing up Carol for an acrobatic volley which the Guingamp keeper somehow managed to parry (65’). Bordeaux kept on pushing but Guingamp never gave up. Viviane Asseyi produced more acrobatics (76’), while Rose Lavaud twice came close to breaking the deadlock (78’ and 83'). The last goalscoring chance of the game was also the best, but still the scoreboard remained stubbornly empty. Camille Surdez slipped past her marker and played a clever ball for Rose Lavaud, who cut inside and laid off for Claire Lavogez. Her shot seemed destined for the back of the net, but Charlotte Lorgéré cleared it off the line (89’) ! The 0-0 scoreline in no way reflects the quality of the football on display this afternoon, but the draw was a fair result. The Girondines' next game is a big one: a trip to Lyon on 21st October.
