The Girondins de Bordeaux are delighted to announce the arrival of Maëlle Garbino! The 21 year old midfielder has signed a two-year deal with Bordeaux. Born on 9th August 1996 in Vienne, Isère, Maëlle started playing football at the age of 10. She was soon scouted by Olympique Lyonnais, and recruited to the prestigious OL youth academy. The attacking midfielder spent three successful season with the U19 Lyonnaises, scoring 25 goals in 35 games and winning the Challenge National Féminin U19 in 2013-2014. She progressed to the professional squad in 2014-2015, earning a regular place in the best ladies' team in France. She went on to make ten appearances over two seasons, scoring four goals and winning more silverware: two French league titles and two Coupe de France triumphs (2015 and 2016), as well as the Champions League 2016 ! Maëlle also made her international debut for France in this period, first with the U19s then the U20s, taking part in the Youth World Cup in Papua New Guinea. The French U20s ultimately lost in the final to North Korea  (3-1). She now has a total of 19 international caps (3 goals). Looking for more regular first-team football, Maëlle moved to AS Saint-Etienne for the 2016-2017 season. She made 14 appearances and scored 5 goals, but Saint-Etienne's poor season saw them relegated to D2. Last year her second-division appearances were curtailed by an injury (5 matches, 2 goals). At just 21 years old, Maëlle already has plenty of top-level experience as well as the potential to improve even further. We're delighted to welcome her to Bordeaux! Welcome Maëlle !
