Speaking after the game at Nantes' Stade de la Beaujoire, Girondins president Stéphane Martin announced the name of the coach who will take over from Jocelyn Gourvennec, who left the club last Thursday.  The new manager of the Girondins de Bordeaux is Gustavo Poyet, a former Uruguayan international whose playing career took him to River, Grenoble, Chelsea and Tottenham. In recent years Gus has coached Brighton (League One champions in 2011, with Poyet voted manager of the year), Sunderland, AEK Athens, Betis Seville and, most recently, Shanghai Shenhua. Gus Poyet will be bringing in two assistants. The first is Mauricio Taricco, of Argentina, who played for West Ham and Tottenham before joining Gus as assistant coach at Brighton and Sunderland. The second assistant is none other than Fernando Menegazzo, lynchpin of the Girondins' midfield from 2006 to 2011. In his time with the club, Fernando won two league cups, two Trophées des Champions and, of course, the Ligue 1 title in 2009. Gus Poyet will be introduced to the media on Monday afternoon, before leading his first training session. FC Girondins de Bordeaux have appointed Gus #Poyet as manager. He will be joined by Mauricio #Taricco and @FerMenegaz1981. Welcome to Bordeaux! — FCGirondins Bordeaux (@girondins) 20 January 2018
