The Girondins de Bordeaux are delighted to announce the arrival of Paul Baysse. The central defender has signed up for 3 and a half years (until June 2021), completing a medical and all of the necessary paperwork yesterday. A graduate of the Academy at Le Haillan, Paul rejoins the club after ten years away. He turned professional here in the 2006-2007 season, but the fierce competition for places saw Paul sent out on loan to L2 side CS Sedan Ardennes, eventually joining them full time. Paul played 88 matches for Sedan, including 79 in Ligue 2 (scoring 6 goals). His performances brought him to the attention of Brest, recently promoted to Ligue 1, and he made the move to Brittany in 2010-2011. The Bordeaux boy lived up to his potential at the top level, making 90 appearances over three seasons (scoring 4 goals). But his last season with Brest was marred by a serious injury, the start of a tough time in his career. Transferred to Saint-Etienne (2013-2014), he picked up another injury and was forced to sit out the whole season. But this experience of adversity helped to forge Paul's implacable temperament and he came back stronger next year (14 matches, one goal). He then joined Nice on loan, and once again established himself as a first-team regular. He made 58 appearances in his 2 seasons down south (scoring 2 goals), before deciding to move abroad for the first time in his career. Paul spent the first half of this season with Spanish side Malaga, playing 16 matches and scoring one goal. And now he's back in Bordeaux! At 29 years of age he has extensive experience at the top level, having already racked up 266 games. Solid on the ground and efficient in the air, Paul is a true defensive stalwart. He returns to the Girondins as a fully-minted professional, and we are thrilled to have him back. Welcome home Paul !   ? It's OFFICIAL… ? @PaulBaysse is coming home! The central defender has signed up for 3.5 years with his boyhood club, the Girondins. He will train with the squad tomorrow, after being presented to the media. ⏩ https://t.co/QBgQYph2bE pic.twitter.com/brk3sNkKmE — FCGirondins Bordeaux (@girondins) 10 janvier 2018
