Video refereeing approved for next season

The Executive Board of the Ligue de Football Professionnel met yesterday to officially approve the use of video technology in Ligue 1. The new rules will come into force in 2018/2019, subject to the approval of the International Board. The technology has already been tested by several federations and leagues around the world. Elite-level referees have been receiving training in how to use this technology since the 2016/2017 season. Ahead of its introduction for league games next year, video technology will be tested in the quarter-finals of the League Cup and the Coupe de France, and during play-offs.
