An even start The Girondins fielded a much-changed team for their first outing in this season's league cup. With the rain pouring down, Jocelyn Gourvennec's side got proceedings underway at the Stadium. The Girondins rapidly set up shop in the opposition half, and François Kamano came very close to nabbing an early goal. Unfortunately for us, Amian stopped the Guinean striker's shot on the line (1’). Bordeaux were set up to attack, pressing Pascal Dupraz's team hard. But Toulouse soon fired a warning shot in the form of a goal by Corentin Jean, disallowed for offside (12’). So far so good. Bordeaux lost the ball in the 26th minute, and Yannick Cahuzac smashed wide from outside the box. Jérôme Prior breathed a sigh of relief. But not for long, as a shot from Jean forced him into a diving save a few minutes later (31’). Pragmatic Toulouse Things changed suddenly when Lukas Lerager appeared to obstruct Corentin Jean inside the box. Referee Antony Gautier showed no hesitation in awarding the penalty. Jérôme Prior went the right way, but could not stop Gradel's shot (36’). Gourvennec's boys tried their best to level up before the break, but Youssouf Sabaly's cross for François Kamano ended up just centimetres wide of the post. Toulouse 1-0 Bordeaux at half time. Toulouse break free Back from the break, Bordeaux looked to get back on the attack. Cafu played in a superb cross for Younousse Sankharé, who was completely unmarked but still failed to hit the target (46’). A few minutes later, back up the other end, Ola Toivonen headed in from a corner to make it 2- 0 Toulouse (50’). Jocelyn Gourvennec decided to roll the dice on a double substitution: Ervin Taha and Valentin Vada on for Cafu and Lukas Lerager (62’). Nicolas De Preville tried his luck from a free kick in the 69th minute, but TFC keeper Alban Lafont  stopped it comfortably. Jérémy Toulalan and co. were struggling to break down this solid Toulouse side. A tough end to the game Pascal Dupraz's side had the match under control and they knew it. The Girondins continued to struggle in the final third, with Youssouf Sabaly again missing the target from the edge of the box (79’). The match was beginning to drag for Bordeaux. Despite late efforts from Nicolas De Preville (91') and Ervin Taha (92’), the game ended in a 2-0 defeat and early elimination for the Girondins.
