With the Autumn sun shining down, the Girondins got the match underway. In the second minute, Malcom broke free down the left and floated in a cross. Monaco keeper Danijel Subasic saw it coming. Up the other end, Monaco's first chance on goal fell to Fabinho. Benoît Costil pulled off a fantastic save to keep the scores level (4’). Two minutes later Thomas Lemar came close (6’).  Monaco dominated these early exchanges, but the Girondins were constantly on the look-out for a chance to counter-attack. Younousse Sankharé picked out  Nicolas De Préville on the left, but his shot was not enough to get past Danijel Subasic (11’). After this brisk start the game slowed down slightly, although Kamano put a decent chance over the bar in the 22nd minute. A few minutes later Youssouf Sabaly tried his luck from the edge of the box, but missed the target. The next chance fell to Monaco, with Joao Moutinho placing a free kick on the head of Kamil Glik. Benoît Costil had it covered. The Girondins were soon back on the attack, but Valentin Vada saw two corners cleared by the visitors' defence (34’). Malcom and De Préville were soon back up the other end, but a speculative cross was not enough to beat Danijel Subasic. When Valentin Vada and Andrea Raggi fluffed his cross, François Kamano found himself in a promising position. Unfortunately his cross found no takers (43’). The game remained scoreless at half time, though there had been plenty of chances for both sides. Younousse Sankharé, Malcom and Nicolas De Préville came back from the break raring to go. Théo Pellenard soon teed up De Préville for a clear shot from the edge of the box, but the keeper intervened (49’).  Monaco had a free kick and a corner in quick succession, which both came to nothing. But the pressure finally paid off in the 57th minute, when Rony Lopes headed down for Keita Baldé on the 6-yard line. Benoît Costil had no chance: 1-0 Monaco. Jocelyn Gourvennec decided it was time for a change, taking off Younousse Sankharé for Alexandre Mendy.  To no avail, Monaco soon doubled their lead. Thomas Lemar slipped past his marker and fired off a superb shot from the edge of the box: 2-0 (65’). In the 72nd minute Valentin Vada made way for Jaroslav Plasil, marking the Czech wizard's 370th appearance in Ligue 1. Barely a minute later Lukas Lerager headed goalwards from six yards out, only to see Jermerson clear off the line. A few seconds later it was Malcom's turn, but his shot was off target (73’).  The Girondins had two chances in quick succesion, with Alexandre Mendy having a shot turned away by Danijel Subasic and François Kamano seeing his header cleared off the line by Jemerson.  Jocelyn Gourvennec soon made his final substitution, brining off François Kamano for Jonathan Cafú. Monaco brought on Stevan Jovetic for Keita Baldé, and the sub soon came perilously close to making it 3-0 (83’). Lukas Lerager came close for Bordeaux, but put his shot over the bar (85’). Alexandre Mendy also fired one over the bar a few minutes later. Injury time brought no change, as the Girondins were forced to admit the superiority of last year's champions (2-0).
