In just the fifth minute, Neymar curled a free kick past Benoît Costil and into the back of the net. Not an ideal start for Bordeaux. Just a few minutes later it was Neymar who teed up Cavani for PSG's second goal (2-0). The Girondins were two goals down after 12 minutes, leaving themselves with a mountain to climb.
Paris kept up the pitiless pressure, and before long Meunier made it three (3-0, 21’). The pace slowed slightly after this goal, as PSG appeared to relax and take things a bit easer. The Girondins finally had time to breathe, but they still looked rattled. Nonetheless, Younousse Sankharé connected with a good pass from Nicolas De Préville to score for the Girondins and maintain a bit of suspense (3-1, 31’). This goal re-energised Bordeaux, who finally started to look confident and push forward.
Igor Lewczuk suffered an injury in the 32nd minute, with Youssouf Sabaly coming on to replace him. François Kamano came tantalisingly close to scoring Bordeaux's second goal with a misplaced header from the back post (36’). The tempo was high, with chances at both ends: Benoît Costil pushed away a shot from M’Bappé, and seconds later Malcom had a shot blocked by Aréola at the other end (38’). Just before half time Neymar scored from the penalty spot after Otavio (allegedly) handled the ball in the box (4-1, 40’). A tough blow, just as the Girondins looked to be getting back into the match. Draxler pounced just before the break to make things worse. 5-1 at half time. Ouch.
Back from the break, Nicolas De Préville took a free kick in a good position but couldn't find the target (50’). Jocelyn Gourvennec made his second substitution of the game, bringing on Alexandre Mendy for De Préville (56’). Just before the hour mark, MBappé added another goal for Paris (6-1, 58’). Bordeaux attacked from the kick-off, and Aréola stopped a decent shot from Malcom (59’). Younousse Sankharé was booked for a foul on Neymar, conceding a free kick in a very dangerous position. No problem, Di Maria missed the target (65’).
Alexandre Mendy hit the post for Bordeaux, and Malcom never stopped looking for an opening. Aréola had to stretch to keep out another shot from François Kamano (71’), but the ensuing corner came to nothing and Kamano was soon subbed off for Cafu (75’). Malcom kept on chipping away at the Paris defence, and finally got himself a goal from the penalty spot (6-2, 90’). This was to be the last major event of the game.
The Girondins return to Bordeaux empty-handed, having suffered their first defeat of the season in Ligue 1. Paris were ruthless in the first half, effectively ending the game before it had really got going. Next weekend is the international break, but Bordeaux will have to rapidly refocus on their Ligue 1 campaign - the Atlantic derby is coming up fast.
