The Girondins de Bordeaux can now officially confirm the permanent transfer of Frédéric Guilbert to SM Caen. After a season on loan in Normandy, Frédéric has now permanently rejoined his boyhood club. After being released from Caen's youth academy, Frédéric fought back in the CFA with Cherbourg. He had a good season, and performed well against Bordeaux in their league encounter. Fred’ caught the eye of Patrick Battiston, who brought him to Le Haillan in 2014. Guilbert slotted right in to the Girondins' set-up, and rapidly lived up to the hopes placed in him. He seized on opportunities arising from injury and made his first team debut at the end of the 2014-2015 season in a L1 game against Lens (2-1). He signed his first professional contract shortly after that match. In 2015-2016, Frédéric continued to progress in his first season as a pro. As a key member of Willy Sagnol's squad, the young No. 26 made 30 Ligue 1 appearances at right back and in the centre of defence. He also made his European debut, with six appearances in the UEFA Europa League. Frédéric also featured in Jocelyn Gourvennec's plans in the early stages of last season, starting two games and coming on as a sub once. Nonetheless, keen to play more first-team football, he soon headed out on loan to Caen where he enjoyed a successful season. Frédéric Guilbert has now rejoined his former club on a permanent basis. We wish him all the best for the rest of his career.
