Sékou Mara turns pro with Bordeaux

The Girondins de Bordeaux are very pleased to announce that Sékou Mara has signed his first professional deal with the club. The young Academy graduate has signed up for the next three seasons (June 2023).

It was a special day for Sékou in more way than one, since he signed his contract on his 18th birthday! Born in Paris on 30th July 2002, this was a double milestone for the young man. Sékou started out  in the Paris SG youth academy, before moving to AC Boulogne-Billancourt. It was here that he first came to the attention of Bordeaux's scouts, and he signed for the Girondins in 2015 but remained with his local club for two more seasons. He made the move to Bordeaux in 2017, at the age of 15.

Sékou has continued to develop and progress here in Bordeaux, and has also been called up to the France national set-up, earning six caps (and scoring one goal) with the U16 and U17 teams. Sékou has been with the first-team squad since pre-season, working to develop his capacities as a self-described "lynchpin," capable of "switching things up in midfield, breaking away, calling for long balls and finding space."

The club is delighted to see Sékou turn pro, the 8th Academy graduate to do so this year, further evidence of the strength of the Girondins' famous youth system. We wish him every success in his footballing career, and as he embarks on adulthood. It's now up to him to convince the coaches to give him his big chance. Félicitations Sékou !
