Bordeaux stumble against Montpellier [0-2]

The Girondins were caught out by Montpellier in their 10th outing of the Ligue 1 season. Mollet (49’) and Delort (66’) got the goals for the visitors. The Girondins never gave up, but never really looked like making up the two-goal deficit. The decisive turning point came in the 49th minute when Mollet fired Montpellier into the lead. A knock-out blow which Bordeaux struggled to come to terms with. 17 minutes later, Delort effectively finished the job.  

The Girondins attempted to bounce back rapidly, but Hatem Ben Arfa's shot (68’) and Jimmy Briand's header (75’) both missed the target. With an hour on the clock, Jean-Louis Gasset decided it was time to bring on some fresh legs. Josh Maja, Mehdi Zerkane and Toma Basic made way for Jimmy Briand, Nicolas De Préville and Yacine Adli.

In the first half, Hatem Ben Arfa came close with a free kick (11’). A few minutes later, Benoît Costil pulled off an excellent save to deny Savanier (13’) and Delort missed the target moments later (14’). Just before half time, Otavio narrowly missed the target (38’). Two minutes later, Hatem Ben Arfa fired in a wonderful, glancing shot which Bertaud did well to push out for a corner. An unwelcome home defeat for the Girondins, as the players head off for the international break.
