Svava Rós Gudmundsdóttir joins Bordeaux

The Girondins de Bordeaux are delighted to announce the arrival of Iceland international Svava Rós Gudmundsdóttir. The 25-year-old forward has signed on until June 2022. Born in November 1995, Svava made her senior debut in 2011 with Valur, at the tender age of 15. She went from strength to strength at the Reykjavík club, making 59 appearances and scoring 19 goals. She also won the Icelandic Cup in 2011, although she did not feature in the final.

She then moved to Breidablik in 2015, making her senior international debut that same year. Svava stepped up to the next level with her new club, winning the Icelandic league in 2015. Breidablik were runners-up in 2016 and 2017, but won the cup in 2016. Over the three seasons she spent with Breidablik, Svava scored fewer goals (12 in 62 matches) but was twice the top assist provider in the league (2016 and 2017). She also made her UEFA Champions League debut (5 matches, 3 goals). 2017 saw Svava embark upon her first international adventure, moving to Norway to join Røa, where she scored 14 goals in 21 matches. The following year she moved to Sweden, signing for Kristianstad where she once again made her mark on a very competitive league. She played a total of 41 matches and scored 15 goal, but lost out in the cup final in 2019.

Svava Rós Gudmundsdóttir made her senior international debut in 2015, having already played for Iceland at U17 and U19 level. She now has over 20 senior caps to her name (and one goal), and featured in Euro 2017. Iceland are already qualified for Euro 2022, along with France. A flexible forward who can play in any attacking role, Svava is an experienced talent who still has plenty of potential to progress even further. She is pacy, a proven goalscorer and playmaker, and a major addition to the Girondines squad.
