A narrow defeat for Bordeaux [1-0]

All it took was a momentary lapse of attention for Paris to make the difference. Just before the break, Eve Périsset played a tentative pass for Julie Dufour on the right side of the Girondines' own penalty area. Perle Morroni pounced to intercept the ball, hooking it back for Sara Däbritz. The German international smashed it into the corner with her left foot, scoring the only goal of this hotly-contested game (1-0, 43’).

A defeat which may not come as a surprise, against the current league leaders, especially since PSG dominated for long spells of this game.Olivier Echouafni's side had the lion's share of possession, spending most of the match inside Bordeaux's half.

But Paris did not create many chances. Diani (3’) and Katoto (4’) both had shots stopped by Anna Moorhouse, before Formiga hit one wide (23’) and Däbritz fired over the bar (33’). Bordeaux, meanwhile, produced a performance impressive for its discipline and solidarity. With some smart, effective defending, there were few opportunities for the hosts to exploit. The Girondines' best moments came on the counter-attack, with Ghoutia Karchouni looking particularly strong.

Things were much the same in the second half. Baltimore (56’), Geyoro (57’) and Katoto (74’) all had goalscoring chances which came to nothing. The team work and coordination between Eve Perisset, Julie Thibaud, Vanessa Gilles and Estelle Cascarino was outstanding, and the Girondines also managed to create more chances going forward. Khadija Shaw had two shots on target saved by PSG keeper Endler (69’ and 71’).

The Girondines have nothing to be ashamed of in this very narrow defeat at the hands of league leaders PSG.  Pedro Martinez Losa put in a solid collective performance, and ultimately the gap between the two sides was very slim. By way of consolation, close rivals Montpellier slumped to a heavy defeat in Guingamp (4-1), leaving Bordeaux four points ahead of MHSC. Now it's time to regroup and focus on bouncing back this coming Saturday, with a home game against Reims.
