Jean-Louis Gasset decided to rotate his squad for this cup tie with the current second-placed team in Ligue 2. Keen as they were to bounce back from the weekend's defeat in Brest, things did not get off to a good start for the Girondins. Toulouse parked the proverbial bus from the outset, leaving precious little chance for Bordeaux's forwards to get a sight of goal. Amadou Traoré attempted a couple of early crosses into the box (11’ and 15’), to no avail. The Girondins looked out of sorts, struggling to impose themselves on this game. Tom Lacoux thought he had scored, but the flag was up… Proper chances were few and far between. Sékou Mara (30’) and Toulouse's Sébastien Dewaest (36’) both picked up yellow cards before half time.

The tension finally broke in favour of TFC, with Bayo Vakuoun firing the visitors into the lead before the break (0-1, 38’). The Girondins returned to the pitch for the second half with a renewed sense of purpose. Jean-Louis Gasset decided to bring on some fresh legs in the form of Yacine Adli and Hatem Ben Arfa, in place of Dilane Bakwa and Loic Bessilé (55’).

But before long Janis Antiste doubled the lead for Toulouse (0-2, 57’). This game looked to be rapidly slipping away from the Girondins.  And so it proved: the score remained unchanged, and Bordeaux crashed out of the Coupe de France.
