The Girondins narrowly lost out to Metz this afternoon at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE (1-2). Samuel Kalu scored early on (13'), but an equaliser from Delaine (72') and a late strike from Vagner allowed the visitors to run away with all three points (90+2). It's hard to imagine a more frustrating scenario: when Vagner nicked the late winner for Metz, the Girondins on the field were visibly distraught. Although the result was by no means a fair reflection of the way this game played out, it was further evidence of the rough patch the team is currently enduring.

Things looked a whole lot rosier when Samuel Kalu fired Bordeaux into the lead in the 13th minute. The Girondins were looking upbeat, imposing a rapid tempo. Benoît Costil then pulled off a stunning save to deny Gueye (20'). The Girondins' other chances - Samuel Kalu (3'), Rémi Oudin (27') - flew wide of the post in this first half. After the break, Metz began to cause a few more problems for the Girondins, chopping and changing the pace in search of a chink in Bordeauxs defensive armour. Benoît Costil produced two huge saves in the space of five minutes (50' and 55') but Delaine's equaliser was well-deserved (72').

A 1-1 draw would have been a fair reflection of the game, but that was not to be. A flash counter-attack in stoppage time saw Vagner snatch a late winner (90+2). A cruel blow for the Girondins, who must now prepare to face Paris on Wednesday. Hold on in there lads, the club is behind you!
