This truly was a game of two halves. In the first period, Paris dominated and took the lead, although both sides had their chances. After the break, Bordeaux kicked into gear and even dominated for long spells in the final half-hour. But chances were few and far between. Paris dominated possession from the outset, led by a Rafinha on fine form. Jean-Louis Gasset's side held on as best they could, with Benoît Costil producing an excellent save to deny Sarabia (17’) only to concede from the next attack. Out on the left wing, Gueye fired in a cross for Sarabia. The Spaniard caught the ball with a lovely first touch, then fired his left-footed shot beyond Costil and into the corner (20’, 0-1).

Barely ten minutes later, Bordeaux created three chances on goal in the space of two minutes. A decent cross into the box from the in-form Youssouf Sabaly (27’), another from Rémi Oudin (27’) and then a shot from Hwang Ui-Jo (28’).  Paris were still broadly in control, creating several decent chances of their own. Draxler (24’), Kurzawa (31’) and Icardi (33’) all came close, while Yacine Adli (10’ and 42’) and Hwang Ui-Jo both had chances to equalise (36’).

The second half was a very different affair. Bordeaux were on fighting form, constantly on the attack. After a fairly balanced first fifteen minutes, Paris sat back and the Girondins dominated the rest of the game. Hatem Ben Arfa, Nicolas De Préville (64’), Tom Lacoux, Amadou Traoré (78’) and Jimmy Briand (86’) all made an impact, as Bordeaux piled on the pressure from corner after corner. The Girondins had possession, but PSG remained frustratingly solid at the back. All that pressure allowed Bordeaux to create some very promising chances. Hatem Ben Arfa came close with a sweet right-footed strike, teed up by Yacine Adli. Just wide of the mark (69’). A few minutes later, Tom Lacoux played in a smart little cross for Jimmy Briand, whose header was on target. Unfortunately for Jimmy, PSG keeper Navas pulled off a truly first-class save to preserve the visitors' lead.

This defeat leaves Bordeaux in 15th place. The result will leave the Girondins with some regrets, but not the nature of their performance. Once again they were physically committed, with clear signs of improvement in all departments. Something to build on as the boys travel to Dijon this weekend in search of a positive result.
