Beaten in Montpellier [3-1]

The Girondins slipped to a 3-1 defeat in Montpellier this afternoon, despite taking the lead in the 28th minute with a goal from Ui-Jo Hwang. Sambia rapidly equalised for the hosts (36’), who broke clear in the second half with goals from Laborde (58’) and Mavididi (69’). Taking the lead is one thing, but protecting it is quite another - as our players learned at their expense today. They started very brightly against Montpellier,with Ui-Jo Hwang creating a few good chances before finding the net just before the half-hour mark. His glancing shot was simply too good for MHSC keeper Omlin to stop (28’).

But that lead was soon squandered: Delort hit the post (33’), but minutes later it was Sambia who equalised with an undeniably superb free kick into the top corner (36’). The scores were still level at the break. Montpellier really came into their own in the second half, in spite of Bordeaux's best efforts. Benoît Costil produced a great save to deny former team-mate Laborde (50’), but he was not so lucky at the next time of asking: Gaëtan Laborde fired the hosts into the lead with half an hour still to play (58’).  

The same scenario soon played out again. Delort drew an excellent save from Benoît Costil (65’), but minutes later Mavididi sealed the deal (69’). It was all over at La Mosson, with the Girondins now well and truly beaten. Benoît Costil produced two more first-class saves to prevent this clear defeat turning into a thrashing.
