Tom Lacoux turns pro

The Girondins de Bordeaux are very pleased to announce that Tom Lacoux has signed his first professional deal with the club! Tom has signed up for the next three seasons (until June 2024). Born in January 2002 in Bordeaux, Tom Lacoux is a 100% local boy. He joined the club in 2016 from Stade Bordelais, and has worked his way up through the youth ranks in style.

He was part of the U19 team that enjoyed a great run in the Coupe Gambardella in 2018-2019, when the Girondins were narrowly beaten in the semi-finals by Saint-Etienne (1-0). Having regularly captained the U19 side, he was soon called up to the Reserves. On the last rung of the ladder before the top level, Tom demonstrated his great flexibility as a player. Primarily a midfielder, he can operate as both defensive bulwark and playmaker. He has also played convincingly at right back, at the coach's request. A phenomenally hard worker, Tom is a team player first and foremost.

After joining the first team squad during pre-season, Tom made his Ligue 1 debut in December against Reims (1-3). After a second promising appearance against Angers (2-1), the Girondins' staff were convinced that he could be a real asset to the team. He has already racked up nine appearances with the first team, including eight in the league. This first professional deal is just rewards for Tom's hard work and effort. Now it's down to him to keep on working hard, improving and gaining in both game time and experience. The club is particularly proud to see yet another product of the Academy turn pro with Bordeaux, and will be there to help him every step of the way. All the best Tom !
