The Girondines picked up all three points from this tough away trip to Fleury-Mérogis, a crucial result in the race for third place. Bordeaux knew they had to win this afternoon to hold off Montpellier and Paris FC, and the Girondines delivered in style. From the outset, Bordeaux dominated possession and dictated the pace of the game. After Katja Snoeijs fired off the first warning shot (7’), it was Inès Jaurena who put the Girondines into the lead. Connecting with a lovely cross from Ghoutia Karchouni, she smashed an unstoppable strike into the bottom right corner (12’).

Bordeaux set up camp in the Fleury half, and it came as no surprise when the second goal arrived in the 20th minute. It came after a beautiful collective movement launched by Estelle Cascarino, taken up by Katja Snoeijs and finished off by Ghoutia Karchouni. Just rewards for the Girondines' total domination of this game. The scoreboard still read two-nil when the referee blew up for half time. It wasn't until early in the second half that Fleury had their first real shot on goal, a header by Bigot that Anna Moorhouse caught comfortably (48’). Bordeaux were still dominating possession, but were now having more trouble creating chances on goal. Estelle Cascarino had a close-range effort parried by Emeline Mainguy (54’).

As time wore on Fleury gradually became more enterprising, but were still incapable of troubling Anna Moorhouse from open play. It took a penalty, awarded for a Vanessa Gilles hand ball, for the hosts to finally pull one back. Grabowska did the honours (68’), but it would not be enough to save the day for Fleury - no further goals meant that the game ended in a 2-1 victory for Bordeaux. This win gives the Girondines a comfortable margin over their nearest rivals, and they will be looking to open up that gap further still against Issy next week.
