Girondins narrowly beaten by Strasbourg [2-3]

In their 31th outing of the season, the Girondins were narrowly beaten in an entertaining game against Strasbourg (2-3). Paul Baysse (36') and Ui-Jo Hwang (45+1, pen) pulled 2 goals back after Koné (5'), Diallo (20') and Ajorque (29' pen) put the visitors 3 goals up in less than half an hour. Bordeaux always looked capable of coming back to win it, but never quite made good on that promise. As time ticked away the Girondins kept on pushing forward while Strasbourg were happy to run down the clock. Another home defeat for Bordeaux, despite a performance which deserved better.  

Things got off to a less than ideal start for Bordeaux, when Koné snatched an early goal for the visitors (5'). To make matters worse, Diallo made it 2-0 fifteen minutes later. Strasbourg keeper Sels also stopped a shot from Ui-Jo Hwang. The downward spiral continued when the referee awarded the visitors a penalty in the 30th minute. Ajorque stepped up to take it: 3-0 to Strasbourg. Bordeaux looked stunned. And yet... The Girondins soon pulled one back courtesy of Paul Baysse (36'). Benoît Costil then pulled off a spectacular save to keep Bordeaux in the game, leading by example in his 200th Ligue 1 appearance (43'). Just on the stroke of half-time, Ui-Jo Hwang scored his tenth goal of the season. 

Surely the Girondins had done the hard work. They now had 45 minutes to find at least one goal, and why not a few more? But it was not to be... One last shot from Toma Basic was boxed away by the ever-vigilant Sels and that was it. 3-2 to the visitors.
