The Girondins sank to a 3-0 defeat against Monaco this afternoon at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE. Volland (29'), Martins (46') and Jovetic (89') got the goals for the visitors. Laurent Koscielny went off injured in the first half (24'). Tom Lacoux was sent off in the 78th minute for a second bookable offence.   No two ways about it: Monaco were the better side. But the boys in blue put up a valiant fight against the team who have so far dominated 2021. Benoît Costil set the tone with a fantastic save around 15 minutes in. Shortly afterwards, Laurent Koscielny limped off injured (24') to be replaced by Mexer. A few minutes later, Volland slotted in the opener for Monaco (29', 0-1). A tough blow for Bordeaux, but hardly against the run of play.

With just one goal separating the teams at the break, the Girondins still had reason to believe. That all changed fairly rapidly in the second half. In the 46th minute, Martins doubled the visitors' lead (46', 0-2). Benoît Costil then pulled off a spectacular save to prevent Volland from making it three (55').  With an hour played, Nicolas De Préville came on for Hatem Ben Arfa. NDP came within a whisker of scoring on two occasions. His first attempt fell foul of Lecomte (65'), while the second rattled off the left post (77'). Clearly, this was not our lucky day.

In the 79th minute, Tom Lacoux was sent off after picking up a second yellow card (71'+79'). The Girondins played out the final ten minutes a man down, and Jovetic snatched a third in the dying seconds of the 90 minutes (89', 0-3). A deserved victory for Monaco.
