In a very closely-fought game, the Girondines lost out to D1 titans Lyon by the narrowest of margins. Bordeaux came agonisingly close to causing an upset here, in a game with implications for the title race. The Girondines started brightly, pressing OL hard and enjoying some early excursions into the Lyon half (Shaw 2’). But they were caught out in the 10th minute, when Le Sommer latched onto a long ball and slotted past Anna Moorhouse from close range.

The tempo fell considerably after this goal, and it was not until much later in the first half that the Girondins truly began to threaten. Ghoutia Karchouni (33’) and Claire Lavogez (43’) both tried their luck from the edge of the box, to no avail. 1-0 to the visitors at the break.

Although Lyon dominated possession, it was Bordeaux who had the clearest goalscoring opportunities  in the first half, and again in the second. After a slightly calm restart, the Girondines began to push hard for an equaliser. Andréa Lardez created a great chance in the 63rd minute, playing a clever one-two with Shaw on the touchline before unleashing a ferocious shot which had Sarah Bouhaddi beaten but ricocheted off the post.

Ghoutia Karchouni had another promising chance (68’), but the Girondines were finding it very hard to break through the Lyon back line. The game ended 1-0 to the reigning champions, after a frustrating 90 minutes for Bordeaux.

The Girondines were the better team for much of this game, the highlight of the penultimate weekend of league competition. The girls now just have one more game to prepare for, travelling to Guingamp in two weeks' time with every intention of finishing this successful season on a high.
