Khadija Shaw is leaving Bordeaux

Born in January 1997 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Khadija joined the Girondins de Bordeaux in the summer of 2019. The young striker rose through the ranks of the Jamaican national football federation's youth set-up, before moving to the USA and starting her professional career with Florida Krush. Meanwhile, Khadija was also making her mark on the international stage. During qualifying for the 2019 World Cup, she scored 19 goals in 11 games to become top scorer. Just before the finals got underway, Khadija Shaw signed for the Girondins de Bordeaux and a new adventure began to take shape.

Khadija made her Bordeaux debut against Fleury, and immediately stamped her authority upon the game. She scored twice in that first game, getting the season off to a winning start for the Girondines. Khadija is a natural born goal machine who has terrorised defences all over France. Hard-working, powerful and competitive, she was a regular starter in that curtailed season and scored ten goals as she rapidly adapted to life in D1. The 2020/2021 season has more than confirmed that early promise. Khadija surpassed all expectations and just could not stop scoring. Once again she scored twice in her first game, this time against Reims. In the fifth game of the season she scored an incredible four goals, following that up with a hat-trick in her 7th outing of the campaign.

A stalwart of this great team, in just two seasons Khadija has left her mark on the history of the club. She finished this season with the D1 Golden Boot, while also becoming the Girondines' all-time leading goalscorer. With 34 goals to her name, she is the most prolific striker in the history of Bordeaux's women's side. Her goals and her all-round talent have helped Bordeaux to move up to the next level, qualifying for the Champions League. She will always be fondly remembered here in Bordeaux.
