In their last outing of a very successful league season, the Girondines were beaten 4-2 after a wild and unpredictable game. Bordeaux came from behind, reclaimed the lead and somehow ended up losing: today's game against Guingamp was full of drama It became clear early on that this was not going to be a sedate end-of-season stroll. After a relatively calm opening fifteen minutes, both teams began pushing forward and trading attacking blows. Guingamp created decent chances for Fleury (18’) and Cambot (20’), before Khadija Shaw twice came within inches of breaking the deadlock (23’, 26’).

After half an hour or so, the game really kicked up a gear. EAG scored first, with Peniguel striking one shot onto the bar before smashing home with the follow-up (32’). Khadija Shaw then equalised in the very next minute (33’), securing her position as this season's top scorer in D1. Just before the break there were chances for both sides, courtesy of Lavogez (45’) and Peniguel (45’+2), but the score remained 1 - 1 at half time. The game then picked up where it had left off, with Guingamp immediately testing Romane Bruneau from a wide free kick (48’).

The chances kept piling up, and it was Bordeaux who scored first. Latching on to an excellent long ball, Claire Lavogez placed a superb lob over the keeper and into the net (58'; 1-2), then came tantalisingly close to scoring again ten minutes later. This time, her shot was just wide of the mark (67’).

It could so easily have been 3 - 1 to the Girondines, but instead EA Guingamp scored twice in quick succession to reclaim the lead. Both goals were impressive, the first a sweet aerial strike from Peniguel (72’) and the second a Jezequel volley from the edge of the box (74’). With time ticking away, Katja Snoeijs had a great chance to equalise, but the Guingamp keeper came off her line well (82’). In the final minutes Diaby scored a fourth goal for the hosts, putting this game definitively beyond Bordeaux's reach (88’). A frustrating way to end what has been a marvellous season for the Girondines. See you after the summer break, as Bordeaux embark upon their maiden season in the Champions League!
