Ulrich and Girondins is a love story that started on the pitch. The young keeper, a product of the Angers SCO youth academy, joined Bordeaux as understudy to Stanley Menzo. The Dutch keeper soon fell out of favour, and Guy Stéphan gave the youngster from Nantes his big chance. Ulrich made his debut on 12 September 1997 against Le Havre (2-1). Managers came and went, Bordeaux's fortunes waxed and waned, but he was never out of the starting line-up again. Ulrich spent 14 seasons with the Girondins and accumulated a massive haul of silverware: League Champions in 1999 and 2009, three League Cups (2002, 2007, 2009) and one Trophée des Champions (2008). He also won 12 caps with France and won two trophies: Euro 2000 and the Confederations Cup in 2001.

But Ulrich's time with the Girondins didn't end when he finally retired. After winding down his playing career in Sedan, he returned to Bordeaux in the role of Performance Director. He has since held a number of posts within the Club, and in 2016 served as caretaker manager following the departure of Willy Sagnol. After the arrival of Jocelyn Gourvennec, he became Technical Director Technique and head of the scouting team. Over the past five years, Ulrich Ramé has been closely involved with the development of the women's team at FC Girondins de Bordeaux, a massive success story which has seen the Girondines go from strength to strength. Promoted to D1 in 2016, barely a year after the team was founded, they finished this season in third place and secured qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The club would like to thank Ulrich Ramé for his peerless professionalism and commitment since 1997. He currently sits second in the all-time rankings for most appearances for the Girondins (525 matches), and throughout that time has always given his all for the club, both on the field and off. Passionately devoted to his work, he will always have a major place in the history of our club and its development. We wish him every success with this new chapter in his career.
