Bordeaux narrowly beaten by Lille [2-3]

In their last match of 2021, the Girondins slipped to a narrow defeat at the hands of Lille. Alberth Elis scored twice for Bordeaux (17' et 45'). André (33'), Yimaz (77') and David (83') got the goals for the visitors. The Girondins faithful turned out in numbers for this promising clash against the reigning champions, an ideal Christmas match. Things got interesting very early on, with Javairo Dilrosun firing in the first warning shot (5'). Fransergio tried his luck a few minutes later (13') and shortly afterwards Alberth Elis connected with a precision cross from Timothée Pembélé to put Bordeaux into the lead (17', 1-0). 

André eualised on the half-hour mark, slamming his half-volley past Benoît Costil. Lille missed the target with two more chances, before Junior Onana limped off to be replaced by Otavio (39'). Just before the break, Alberth Elis fired Bordeaux back into the lead with a truly superb goal. Latching on to a clever through ball from Yacine Adli, Elis tore the defence apart and poked the ball home with just the right combination of power and precision (2-1, 45').

After the break the Girondins sought to protect their lead and soak up the pressure from the now-dominant LOSC attack. But after having two goals ruled out for offside, Yilmaz finally succeeded in equalising from the penalty spot (77', 2-2). Bordeaux dug deep as the minutes ticked away, and Alberth Elis continued to torment the visitors' defence.

In spite of the boys' best efforts, David decided the game in Lille's favour in the 83rd minute. Try as they might, this time Bordeaux had no answer.
