The Girondins started brightly, pushing forward and creating some promising chances for Tom Lacoux (13’) and Abdel Jalil Medioub (15’).  This early pressure soon paid off when Hwang Ui-Jo fired Bordeaux into the lead (17’, 1-0). The Korean international connected with Rémi Oudin's cross and produced a perfect finish.

Four minutes later, Rémi Oudin racked up another assist - this one an impeccable ball for Alberth Elis to score his eighth goal in Bordeaux colour (21’, 2-0). Shortly before half time, Hwang Ui-Jo curled in a lovely shot from mid-distance to make it 3-0 (39’). Kévin Gameiro pulled one back for Strasbourg just before the break (43’, 3-1). Early in the second half, stand-in keeper Gaëtan Poussin proved his mettle with a fine save (54’). Nonetheless, just a few short minutes later he was powerless to stop Kévin Gameiro pulling back another goal for the visitors (57’, 3-2). The Girondins were under serious pressure now, with Strasbourg putting up a courageous fight in midfield.

In the final minute of normal time Hwang Ui-Jo completed his hat trick with a beautifully-placed long-range shot (90’, 4-2). Majeed Waris's goal in the dying seconds of injury time did nothing to change the result (90’+7, 4-3). Victory for Bordeaux! The only dark cloud on the horizon this afternoon was the fact that Rémi Oudin limped off injured in the 69th minute. Rémi had been on fantastic form all afternoon, providing two assists before sustaining an injury in a decisive tackle. The Girondins' next league game will be against Reims in two weeks' time.
