Marcelo joins Bordeaux !

Marcelo Antônio Guedes Filho, better known as Marcelo, was born on 20 May 1987 in São Vicente, Brazil.  He made his professional debut in 2007 for the legendary Santos FC, winning the São Paulo championship that same year.

By the time he discovered Ligue 1 with Lyon in 2017, Marcelo had built up a vast experience of European football. He left Brazil in 2008 to join Wisla Krakow, where he spent two seasons and won the Polish League. He then moved to the Eredivisie, winning the cup in 2012 and the Netherlands Supercup in 2013 with PSV Eindhoven.

His strong performances caught the eye of Hanover 96 and later Besiktas, where Marcelo added two Turkish league titles to his bulging trophy cabinet (2016 and 2017). In the summer of 2017 he joined Olympique Lyonnais, where he has made 167 appearances over the past four and a half seasons. A born leader, Marcelo was a stalwart of the Lyon defence throughout successive European campaigns, making 24 appearances in the Champions League and 45 in the Europa League.
