Things got off to a bad start for Bordeaux. After 10 minutes of relatively even exchanges, Wahi scored from the visitors' first proper chance of the match (0-1, 11’). A few minutes later, Mollet made it two (0-2, 16’). The Girondins fought back as best they could. When Alberth Elis was hauled down by Cozza inside the penalty area, the defender was shown a straight red and Elis had a chance to reduce the gap from the penalty spot. Unfortunately for us, he missed (42’).

The final minutes before the break were frantic, with Danylo Ignatenko and Sékou Mara both creating chances but missing the mark (45’). Then, in another dramatic moment just seconds before half-time, Montpellier's Ristic was also shown a red card. This left Bordeaux with 11 men to Montpellier's 9 for the whole of the second half, turning the rest of the game into an attack v. defence training exercise. Ultimately, it was Olivier Dall’Oglio's side who came out on top.

Sékou Mara (60’), Alberth Elis (67’), Hwang Ui-Jo (80’) and Javairo Dilrosun (82’) all tried their luck, and the visitors' keeper pulled off some outstanding saves (50’ and 69’) to deny the goal-hungry Girondins. David Guion's pushed hard until the very end, but simply could not get the better of the Montpellier defence.
