The Girondins were 2-1 winners in their friendly with Deportivo Alavés, and manager David Guion was pleased with what he saw from his players.
The coach's comments in full:
"What I wanted from this game was to see the boys fight for a win. The first half wasn't great, I felt the players were still nervous and holding back. But I was really pleased with the way they dug deep to find the victory in the second half. They played to win. They played higher up the pitch, there was a lot more aggression. And that yielded results, we created chances. Then when we got the equalizer, the boys pushed on right away to get the winner. That's the sort of attitude I want to see.
What we need now is for the boys to stand up and be counted on the pitch. I want to see us win games. That's why I was keen to keep everybody working, with this friendly. And that's why it was so important for us to win.
I wanted to give a run-out to some of the lads who maybe haven't played so much. It helps to get them up to speed. It's always interesting to give those squad players an opportunity in friendlies, and that's what we did this afternoon."
