Reduced to ten men after just 35 minutes, Bordeaux picked up a precious point in Lille. The Girondins produced a masterclass of courage and determination, keeping their first clean sheet of the season. A hard-won draw against high-flying opposition which will be very good for morale. Back from the international break, the boys in navy blue were determined to prove that the fight is not over yet. In the 3rd minute, Gaëtan Poussin set the tone with a huge save. A few minutes later, Onana's shot flew wide of the mark (15').

Just after the half-hour mark, Enock Kwateng picked up a second yellow card. The rules of the game are simple enough: two yellows = 1 red, and an early bath for Enock. Ui-Jo Hwang was soon sent on for Alberth Elis (43'). Still, the scoreboard remained empty as the two sides went in for half-time. The second period started much like the first, with a shot from Bamba glancing off the post (51'). Referee Mr. Dechepy correctly ruled out two goals for offside infractions (60' and 62'). In the 66th minute, Ui-Jo Hwang fired in a lovely cross to the back post, sadly just out of reach of Ricardo Mangas.

Gideon Mensah and Rémi Oudin were soon sent on to replace Yacine Adli and Javairô Dilrosun (67'). Bordeaux never let their guard down for a second. In the space of ten minutes, Gaëtan Poussin pulled off four crucially important saves (68', 70', 72' and 78'). The Girondins were demonstrating superb collective spirit, as Lille kept pushing forward. With 83 minutes on the clock, Paul Baysse came on for Ricardo Mangas. The central defender slotted into the back, with Bordeaux now lined up in a 5-4-0 formation. They wanted this point, and they were determined to take it.

There was a moment of high drama when Onana scored in stoppage time, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. The final, decisive moment of the game saw Paul Baysse clear off the line when Gaëtan Poussin spilled the  ball. The Girondins celebrated at the final whistle, and with good cause. This point and this performance could yet prove to be very significant, and they finally went for 90 minutes without conceding a goal. Bravo boys! Altogether now, we go again next Sunday against Metz: kick-off 15:00 at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE!
