At half time, once again, things were not looking rosy for the Girondins. Metz had taken the lead from their only chance of the half. Nicolas De Préville put in a strong, battling run own the flank and fired in a cross for Lamkel Zé, whose powerful header left Poussin stranded (0-1, 21’). And yet, Bordeaux had got off to a good start. With the visitors looking somewhat hesitant, the Girondins were precise in their passing and battled hard in the midfield. Early chances fell to Junior Onana (5’)and Josuha Guilavogui (7’), forcing good saves from Caillard, before Mbaye Niang shot just wide (13’).

Things began to slip after Metz's surprise goal, and the subsequent injury to Timothée Pembélé (30’). Bordeaux became wasteful, struggling to put Metz under pressure. Still, a header from Anel Ahmedhodzic (33’) and a shot from Mbaye Niang (39’) demonstrated their determination to fight back. The second half was a very different affair, as the Girondins returned from the break revitalized and (finally) caught a but of luck. Javairô Dilrosun charged down the middle and picked out Ricardo Mangas, whose first effort rebounded off a defender before his second attempt flew into the net for the equalizer (1-1, 52’).

The home crowd were starting to believe again, and vociferously cheering on the boys in blue. Hwang Ui-Jo had a decent shot off his left foot (54’), but it was Mbaye Niang who had the Matmut ATLANTIQUE bouncing. Out on the left wing, Ricardo Mangas played a perfectly-weighted ball for Gideon Mensah. The Ghana international whipped in a cross which Niang duly slammed into the net (2-1, 68’).

Bordeaux were in the lead now, and looking for the killer blow. Mbaye Niang had another chance (72’), but Metz were not going down without a fight. Pajot's header was turned away (86’) and Delaine squandered the visitors' best opportunity when he fired over the bar (78’). Bordeaux looked set to dig in and suffer until the end, but things turned out very differently indeed. From a Yacine Adli corner, Caillard fluffed his interception and Hwang Ui-Jo pounced to head the ball into the open goal (3-1, 88’).

Victory for Bordeaux means they move off the bottom of the table - to be replaced by Metz. They are also within one point of Saint-Etienne (18th place) and two points of Clermont (17th). David Guion are firmly back in the race, and will spare no effort to keep the momentum going next week in Lyon.
