Bordeaux knew they had their work cut out for them against Olympique Lyonnais, defending deep from the outset and letting Peter Bosz's side dominate possession during the first fifteen minutes. Alas, Dembélé fired the hosts into the lead with the very first chance of the game. His well-placed header got the better of Gaëtan Poussin in the Bordeaux goal (1-0, 20’), and a few minutes later Toko-Ekambi pounced on a goalkeeping error to make it two (2-0, 27’). Just a few minutes later, Paqueta made it three (3-0, 34’). At half-time, the game looked done and dusted.

But the Girondins' troubles were far from over, and immediately after the break Faivre added a fourth (4-0, 46’). Bordeaux finally showed a bit of bite a few minutes later, when Ui-Jo Hwang fired off a long shot which the Lyon keeper did well to catch (53’). When Toko-Ekambi scored Lyon's fifth (5-0, 68’) the Girondins were stunned but still refused to give up. Substitute Sékou Mara quickly made his presence felt with a powerful shot that glanced off the woodwork (74’). Rémi Oudin also had a decent chance, but his shot was wide of the mark (78’).

Late in the day, a penalty gave Sékou Mara the chance to pull one back for Bordeaux (5-1, 85’). A few minutes later the young striker almost grabbed a second, but was denied by Pollersbeck (88’). Lyon were not done yet, however, and Dembélé added insult to injury with a sixth goal in stoppage time (6-1, 90+2’). After another heavy defeat, David Guion's will need to bounce back immediately against Saint-Etienne this coming Wednesday (20th April, kick-off 19:00) at the Matmut ATLANTIQUE.
