A hard-won point against Les Verts [2-2]

The Girondins secured a point against direct rivals in the fight for survival AS Saint-Etienne (2-2). Sékou Mara (15') and Junior Onana (22') got the goals for Bordeaux, before Bouanga (34') and Nordin (64') scored for the visitors. Bordeaux remain 19th in the league. It all started so well! Sékou Mara scored after a quarter of an hour (15', 1-0), and Junior Onana made it two with a magnificent header just seven minutes later (22', 2-0).

ASSE pulled one back courtesy of Bouanga (34', 2-1), who got the better of Gaëtan Poussin after an earlier scare (32'). The Girondins continued to dominate for the rest of the first half, but things took a turn in the second period. With an hour on the clock, ex-Girondin Wahbi Khazri came on for Saint-Etienne and soon made his presence felt. Nordin levelled (64', 2-2), then rattled a shot off the woodwork barely a minute later. Five minutes later, Ricardo Mangas saw his attempt blocked by Bernardoni (69').

With the end fast approaching, Tom Lacoux made way for Rémi Oudin and Sékou Mara was replaced by Yacine Adli. Mbaye Niang's searching shot lacked power (76'). The clock was ticking. With ten minutes left to play, Stian Gregersen made way for Enock Kwateng and Javairo Dilrosun was subbed off for Thibault Klidje. In an final roll of the dice, David Guion sent on Jimmy Briand for Junior Onana (86'). Within a minute Jimmy had had a goal disallowed by VAR.

Despite 7 long minutes of added time, the score remained stubbornly deadlocked. The Girondins were held to a draw by AS Saint-Etienne, and remain in 19th place.
