The Atlantic Derby got off to the best possible start, with the Girondins taking an early lead when Mbaye Niang headed home a superb cross from Danylo Ignatenko (0-1, 6’). Nantes attempted to hit back immediately, but Cyprien's shot flew over the bar and into the stands (10’). It was not long before Javairo Dilrosun doubled Bordeaux's lead, with an absolute rocket of a shot which capped off a fantastic solo run ! (0-2, 18’) David Guion's side put on a solid defensive display to protect their two-goal lead for the rest of the first half. Blas had two decent chances but narrowly missed the target at both times of asking (29’ and 34’).

Unfortunately for us, the second half was a very different affair. The Canaries pulled a goal back almost immediately after the break, courtesy of Coulibaly (1-2, 47’). Hwang Ui-Jo then created a huge chance on goal, but missed the target (49’). Barely a minute later, Benoît Costil produced an incredible diving save to tip the ball onto the post! The game was by now becoming increasingly frantic, and Nantes levelled the scores when Moses Simon's cross was accidentally bundled into the net by Ricardo Mangas (2-2, 51’). The Girondins did not let their heads go down, and kept on pushing forward. Under pressure inside the Nantes penalty area, Anel Ahmedhodzic managed to get a decent shot away but Alban Lafont punched it clear (58’).

Enock Kwateng then fired Bordeaux back into the lead with a curling left-footed strike (3-2, 68’). But Nantes were not done yet, and Coulibaly equalised again almost immediately (3-3, 72’). Just a few minutes later, Moses Simon scored the hosts' 4th goal and put them into the lead for the first time in this eventful game (4-3, 76’). Bordeaux came tantalisingly close to equalising, but Jimmy Briand's penalty was stopped by the keeper (88’). To add insult to injury, Bukari then scored Nantes' fifth goal straight from the restart. Time was up, and the Girondins slipped to a 5-3 defeat in a dramatic Atlantic Derby.
