A narrow win for Nice [0-1]

Bordeaux started well. Urged on by an enthusiastic Virage Sud, and a strong turn-out of 23,552 home fans, David Guion's side had the first clear chance on goal when Mbaye Niang tested Benitez from a set piece (5’). But Nice soon found their way into the game, with Dolberg pouncing on a misjudged clearance to sneak the ball past Benoît Costil. Fortunately for Bordeaux, Gideon Mensah rushed back to clear the ball with magnificent timing (10’).  

The visitors had the better of the first half, but failed to create many goalscoring opportunities. Andy Delort (22’, 43’) and Dolberg (24’) tried their luck, but could not find the net. The second half was much like the first, with Bordeaux showing plenty of energy and desire but struggling severely to put together anything like a meaningful attacking movement. Nice dominated possession, without creating many chances. Bard had a go (52’), and Benoît Costil pulled off a superb save to turn away a close-range header from Kephren Thuram (59’).

As has so often been the case this season, luck was not on the side of the Girondins. When Bard found himself vying for the ball with Tom Lacoux, the defender accidentally knocked the ball into the path of Andy Delort. The Nice striker couldn't believe his luck, as he tapped it into the goal (0-1, 74’). The Girondins threw everything they had at the frantic final minutes, and Rémi Oudin provided their best chance of the half with a decent cross (84’). But Nice still had the better chances, with Gouiri (80’), Delort (82’) and Lotomba all coming close to doubling the visitors' lead (90’+3).  

Trailing Saint-Etienne (18th) by 4 points, Bordeaux are not mathematically sure of relegation from Ligue 1 just yet. But they will need to take all three points next weekend in Angers.
