Girondines lose to Paris FC [1-4]

The last home game of the season got off to a tricky start for the Girondines. Thiney's snap shot on the turn (2’) and a subsequent effort from Corboz (15’) both drew a collective gasp from the fans gathered at Libourne's Stade Jean-Antoine Moueix. Patrice Lair's players eventually composed themselves and began to produce some decent attacking movements of their own. Their efforts were rewarded in the 20th minute when Melissa Herrera fired them into the lead, converting an excellent assist from Katja Snoeijs (1-0, 20’). The Dutch international almost made it two a few minutes later, but her header was just wide of the mark (27’).

The Parisiennes equalised from the penalty spot, with Thiney doing the honours after being hauled down inside the box by Ella Palis (1-1, 35’). Moments later, Charlotte Bilbault got her head to a well-placed corner but could not quite beat the keeper (36’). The last few minutes of the first period were frantic, with Paris scoring twice in quick succession: Thiney (1-2, 43’) and Sarr (1-3, 45+1’) left Bordeaux with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Patrice Lair's side threw everything they had in pursuit of more goals, but were repeatedly frustrated by Paris' solid defensive organisation. Sandrine Soubeyrand's players also had some good chances in the second half, including a low-flying cross which Eve Périsset did well to intercept (69’). Sarr struck late on to double her own tally and put the game definitively beyond the reach of the Girondines (1-4, 82’). Just moment later, Tainara was sent off for a second bookable offence. Reeling from the goal and suddenly reduced to 10 women, the Girondines put on a valiant display to see out the rest of the game, including a fine save from Mylène Chavas (90’).

In spite of the result, the players shared a moment with the fans after the final whistle blew on this final home game of the season. Thank you once again to our loyal, passionate supporters. The final game of the 2021-2022 season will be played on Wednesday 1st June at 20:45, with the Girondines travelling to face Montpellier.
