A brave performance from the Girondins [0-0]

Led by captain Tom Lacoux, the Girondins travelled to face Grenoble at the Stade des Alpes in their 4th outing of the Ligue 2 season.  Vincent Hognon's side won the toss and elected to kick off, but it was Bordeaux who dominated possession throughout most of the first half. They  had chances courtesy of Josh Maja, Dilane Bakwa and Danylo Ignatenko, but nobody managed to find the net. The Girondins knew they were in for a tough night from the 34th minute, when Junior Mwanga was shown a red card. Already a man down with an hour still to play, David Guion's held firm to reach the break without conceding.

Neither manager made any changes at half time, but Grenoble looked much more enterprising when they returned to the field. They had a decent shot on goal from a corner, but Tom Lacoux did well to intercede (50’). Bordeaux had chances of their own, and Danylo Ignatenko grazed the woodwork with a long-distance effort (60’). Substitute Alberth Elis got his head to a promising cross, but failed to hit the mark (71’).  Grenoble then made a series of substitutions which injected fresh pace into the game and put the Girondins in some difficult positions. Malcom Bokele put in a huge shift in defence to repulse the hosts' repeated attacks. In the 75th minute, Grenoble's Meïssa Ba picked up a second yellow card and evened out the numbers for the last quarter of an hour. In the final minutes of the game Grenoble thought they had finally snatched a winner, only to see the goal (rightly) disallowed for offside. After a nail-bitingly intense finish, the game ended in a goalless draw.
