Born in September 1988 in Maputo, capital of Mozambique, Mexer started his career with his hometown club. He soon came to the attention of the national set-up, and earned his first cap for Mozambique in 2007. He moved to Sporting Portugal in 2010, and was immediately sent out on loan to SC Olhanense for the next two seasons. He was then sold to CD Nacional.

Mexer first moved to France in 2014, joining Stade Rennais FC where he won the Coupe de France in 2019, capping off his 143 appearances for the Rouge et Noir.  Mexer then joined the Girondins de Bordeaux in the summer of 2019. Over the past three seasons he has made 48 appearances for the club in all competitions, including 44 in Ligue 1. His last game in navy blue came on Sunday 23 January, against Strasbourg. We wish Mexer all the best as he opens a new chapter in his career at Estoril.
